Ohio AG approves language in legal marijuana petition

COLUMBUS (AP) – The Ohio Attorney General’s office on Friday approved the summary language in a petition to legalize marijuana use and sales in the state.

The coalition to regulate marijuana like alcohol wants to legalize adults 21 and older to buy and own 2.5 ounces (71 grams) of marijuana and grow up to six plants in their homes.

Earlier this month, Yost rejected the first version of the summary language of the petition, Lists seven defects.

On Friday, he concluded that the resubmitted abstract was “a fair and truthful representation” of the proposed Ohio law change.

The measure goes alongside the Ohio Ballot Board, which must certify whether it contains one or more laws.

If the board signs, the coalition must then collect 133,000 valid signatures to bring the proposed state bill to the Ohio Legislature, which has four months to act.

If not, the measure would be put on the Ohio ballot.

Medical marijuana dispensaries, processors and breeders could apply for recreational marijuana licenses and have exclusive rights for two years under the proposed law.
