Nikki Fried fighting for Florida teacher fired over medical marijuana use

1 min read

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – A senior elected official campaigned for a teacher in Brevard County who was fired for using medical marijuana.

Nikki Fried, who may run for governor in two years’ time, wants to strengthen the laws and protections for medical marijuana users.

Fried, the commissioner for Agriculture and Consumer Services and the only Democrat in the state to hold a nationally elected office, says the case of former Brevard County’s teacher Allison Enright is an example of the need for stricter medical marijuana laws.

“I will always be a cannabis lawyer. That’s my passion, ”said Fried.

Enright was fired last week for having THC in the pill she’s taking for chronic pain relief, in violation of the district’s requirement to be a drug-free workplace.

She’s trying to get her job back.
