Survey says more PA residents support legalizing marijuana | WTAJ

HARRISBURG, PA (WTAJ) – For the first time, a new study shows 58% of Commonwealth residents support marijuana legalization.

This is the result of a new survey by the Muhlenberg College Public Health Program.

Currently, weed is only legally offered in the state with a medical card, but the drive to legalize it fully has been encouraged by Governor Wolf over the past few months.

Phil Goldberg, CEO of Green Leaf Medical, which runs a medical marijuana facility in Bedford County, responded to the idea of legalizing marijuana in Pennslyvinana.

“While we focus on the medicinal benefits of cannabis, we realize that many recreational users actually self-medicate, ‘would be patients’. We also recognize the enormous social justice problems (directed against minorities with cannabis law enforcement agencies) that have arisen from the failed war on cannabis. In addition, legalization has significant public health benefits. For these reasons we support legalization, ”said Goldberg.

Only 26% of Pennsylvania residents surveyed said they would oppose legalization.

Blair County prosecutor Pete Weeks says if it gets legalized he’ll have a logical idea.

“I think the best way to have safe communities and strong drug enforcement when there is a legalized form of pill-form marijuana call would be to make marijuana available in a pill-form pharmacy through a legitimate pharmacy “said Weeks.
