MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) – Alabama Governor Kay Ivey signs medical marijuana law as Republican opposition wanes.
It’s been a hot topic in the state for decades.
Ivey reported that he signed the bill on Monday. The program enables individuals with qualifying conditions to purchase medical marijuana prescriptions.
Approval comes almost a decade after a medical marijuana law was passed in 2013.
Cancer, terminal diseases, depression, epilepsy, and chronic pain are just a few of the conditions Alabamians might qualify for a medical marijuana prescription.
