Medical Marijuana Bill; Vaccine Clinics Closing: The Week In News

BIRMINGHAM, AL – Last week began historically when Governor Kay Ivey signed Alabama’s medical marijuana bill, which legalized the use of cannabis to treat a limited number of diseases in the state.

Also in the news last week, UAB announced it was closing three of its four free COVID-19 vaccination clinics as demand for the vaccine has plummeted in recent weeks. Alabama remains the last country in the country as a percentage of people vaccinated.

According to official figures from the University of Alabama in Birmingham, the decline in local demand for the COVID-19 vaccine is a reason for UAB to close three of its four vaccination clinics on the Birmingham subway.
