Maplewood Welcomes its First Medical Cannabis Dispensary

2 min read

The pharmacist’s dispensary on 1865 Springfield Avenue was cut through on Friday morning. The new medical cannabis dispensary is Maplewood’s first and only one. The facility, along with other brands, offers its own brand of cannabis products (grown on the Boonton, NJ farm) called KindTree. Features such as a “Bud Bar” where patients can smell the different types of cannabis flowers and the “Express Pick Up” area make The Apothecarium a unique pharmacy experience for New Jersey.

“We are proud to work with TerrAscend [The Apothecarium’s parent company] and your organization, it took a long time, “said Frank McGehee, Mayor of Maplewood, at the ribbon cutting ceremony. TerrAscend came to Maplewood with this idea in 2020, and the community had been waiting for the opportunity to work with a company that could make such an idea happen.

Former Mayor and current Maplewood Township Committee member Victor De Luca looked forward to celebrating the cutting of the ribbons. “They gave us a first class, upscale facility and that is what we were looking for.” De Luca added that there is a social benefits agreement that we have worked out with them that includes an annual contribution to our urban alliance, the alcohol and drug prevention program that works with young people. You must also make contributions to the partnership, our arts and culture scene, Seth Boyden, and the food bank. “The Apothekarium also agreed to hire locals to occupy their 6,500-square-foot facility.

The Apothekarium’s community outreach specialist Diana McElroy has been busy giving tours of the new high-end facility this week. McElroy has been holding meetings and giving presentations to the local community for months.

According to McElroy, The Apothecarium plans to apply for an adult marijuana pharmacy license once the facility becomes available in New Jersey.

Frank Rockland, CEO of TerrAscend Northeast, was excited about joining the Maplewood community. “It’s been a fantastic journey to get to this point. I want to thank the city and the support we have received. We are very happy about this beautiful shop. The citizens, patients and consumers of NJ absolutely deserve this. It should be so. We are incredibly proud to be part of this community. “

You must be over the age of 18 and have a New Jersey state medical marijuana card to purchase cannabis.
