Mayor TenHaken proposes 5 medical marijuana dispensaries for Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO) – Five medical marijuana dispensaries will be allowed in the Sioux Falls city limits, Mayor Paul TenHaken said Thursday.

According to a press release sent to KELOLAND News, the city will not allow more than 5 pharmacies to provide access across the city for those looking for medical marijuana.

“This approach does two things. First, it honors the intention of voters to provide access to medical cannabis within a community, ”said Mayor TenHaken. Second, it gives us an opportunity to learn from and respond to the impact medical cannabis will have on our community, knowing that we will be able to expand the total number of medical cannabis dispensaries in the future to be considered. “

Mayor TenHaken compared the Sioux Falls city plan to the introduction of medical marijuana in North Dakota, where only 8 pharmacies are available nationwide.

The city council now has to approve the mayor proposed concession ordinance.
