Patients Are Still Waiting More Medical Marijuana Permits Are Needed Now in NJ
2 min readThe repeated recognition by the Cannabis Regulatory Commission of the significant supply problems in the medical marijuana market at its first meetings is greatly appreciated by the more than 110,000 qualified medical patients across New Jersey who are struggling to access high quality, affordable medical cannabis that they need to treat their qualifying conditions. However, it is long overdue for the state to do something about it.
A first step is for the state to put an end to the unnecessary litigation and litigation that has delayed the granting of much-needed medical marijuana approvals. Last November, the Appeals Division of the Superior Court released an opinion finding significant issues with the New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH) process during the 2018 RFA trial.
With this court ruling since last year, which essentially supports the granting of additional licenses from the 2018 applicant pool, it makes no sense that the NJDOH did not act. In its own biennial report, the NJDOH recognized the need for further approvals for medical marijuana, stating that about 90 pharmacies would be needed this year for the patient population alone. With the state far from it and the medical cannabis market sunk into legal proceedings, patients are suffering. The CRC should act now to finally put patients first.
