Sheriff: $26 Million Worth of Marijuana Eradicated on Island Mountain
2 min readClick to enlarge The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office issued search warrants on eight properties during its raids on Island Mountain this weekend and found 23,000 plants, 4,000 pounds of marijuana, 15 pounds of hashish, 16 firearms and 50,000 rounds seized or exterminated ammunition from seven of the properties. The bureau estimates marijuana to be worth $ 26 million. No arrests were made.
A woman on the eighth property searched was found to be complying with Proposition 215. The sheriff’s office said it was working to find out who owns the property in question and to identify potential suspects. From the Sheriff’s Office: The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office issued (7) seven search warrants on (7) seven separate lots. The search warrants affected commercial marijuana growers located in over 40 separate large greenhouse structures on the properties. The search warrants were served on properties near Hogtrap Road and South Face Road, Island Mountain. The search warrants were served from Monday, June 22, 2015 to Thursday, June 25, 2015. No suspects were found on the packages.
The sheriff’s office seized or destroyed the following items from the search warrants:
1. 23,211 marijuana plants.
2,394 pounds of processed marijuana.
3. 15 pounds of brick-shaped marijuana hash.
4. 16 firearms.
5. 50,000 rounds of ammunition in the following calibers, caliber .50, caliber .308 and caliber .556.
MPs documented the illegal dumping of rubbish, the unauthorized classification of land and the diversion of water on the (7) properties. The deputies are working with the California State Department of Fish and Wild Life Services in their investigation to identify the property owners and suspects involved in the environmental damage to the property. The Sheriff’s Office will submit its reports to the Humboldt County’s District Attorney for review and possible criminal charges against the suspects involved in this commercial marijuana cultivation.
An (8) eighth search warrant was served by the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office on property in the Island Mountain area. One female person was contacted and planted approximately (50) marijuana plants on her property. After the investigation, it was found that she was not following the guidelines for medical marijuana in the state of California. No marijuana was seized from her property and the female person was not arrested.
The street value of the seized and exterminated marijuana is approximately $ 26.5 million.
These cases are still under investigation by the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office.
