SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO) – The South Dakota Highway Patrol released a framework for introducing medical marijuana on Wednesday evening.

The framework comes just hours before medical marijuana legalization in South Dakota. It is used by the South Dakota Highway Patrol and is also available as a resource to all law enforcement agencies.

The published guidelines answer key questions about the implementation of IM 26 for residents with and without a health insurance certificate.

In a statement sent to KELOLAND News, Governor Noem expressed his support for the plan, saying, “This framework will help answer questions law enforcement officers may have. And for the people who are hurt and are hoping for relief, it will also answer some of their questions about what the implementation will look like for them. “

Highway Patrol says in the guide that it cannot oblige state law enforcement agencies to enforce this particular guide in their own jurisdiction, but rather publishes it to “promote consistency of practice among law enforcement agencies and for the benefit of the public.

IM 26 is expected to come into force on July 1, 2021.
