Whitmer Signs New Marijuana Regulations
2 min readGovernor Whitmer cracks down on marijuana products sold outside of licensed companies and medical marijuana facilities. According to a press release from the Michigan Marijuana Regulatory Agency, Whitmer signed a bill on Monday that would regulate the intoxicating substance delta-8-THC derivative. Recently, the substance has been sold untested and unregulated in convenience stores, gas stations, and tobacco / smokers’ shops across the state.
These products were sold to individuals of all ages in a manner that ignored the regulations of the Marijuana Regulatory Agency (MRA). Under the new legislation, these products will come under state law from October 11, 2021 and will be regulated by the MRA.
Looking ahead, the legislative package also aims to close other potential loopholes by updating the definitions for cannabis-derived products so that all intoxicating substances are screened for safety by the MRA’s nationwide surveillance system and approved by the state’s Seed-to -System to be tracked -Sales tracking system.
“This legislative package continues to show that Michigan is the role model for the nation when it comes to protecting its residents and ensuring that those who consume marijuana products do so safely,” said Governor Whitmer. “I am delighted that Michigan continues to lead the way in implementing and regulating a safe marijuana industry that has brought the state tens of millions of dollars in new tax revenues and thousands of well-paying jobs. ”
The MRA has created a one-page document with information on Delta-8 and made it available on its website Here.
