A dentist once well known in Durant was recently charged with illicit drug trafficking. Police say he left dentistry for the medical marijuana industry.
According to Durant Police, 52-year-old Charlie William Bachmann was accused of black market medical marijuana to a drug trafficking NGO.
Bachmann previously owned his own dental practice before becoming head of the Choctaw Nation’s dental program. Choctaw Nation officials say he left in 2019.
“He’s licensed to grow marijuana but obviously not to sell it. They received information that he sold. He ran a surveillance and caught him selling marijuana, ”said Drew Hale of Durant Police.
Durant police had investigated illegal drug activity in a shop on Westside Drive owned by Bachmann.
“Several other people were arrested in connection with this. I think they actually bought marijuana. They’re coming from out of state to buy it, of course, ”Hale said.
Eric Goodrich and Gilbert Loredo Jr. from Houston and Brian Rios from Cypress, Texas were also arrested.
The Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority says licensees are losing their license due to a drug abuse conviction. They say Bachmann has a 50% interest in S and B Cannabis LLC of Durant, a company licensed for the cultivation, processing and distribution of medical marijuana.
He gave up his property on February 16, days after his arrest.
“When it comes to human trafficking, of course, you know that the crowd and things like that count. The law says it’s 4 years in prison to live and possibly a fine, ”Hale said.
The other three men were posted to Bryan County Jail for drug trafficking with bonds of $ 250,000 each. Bachmann was released for a $ 10,000 bond issue.
