JEFFERSON CITY, MO (AP) – More than 90,000 people in Missouri have been approved to use medical marijuana and weekly sales have surpassed $ 2 million, according to an industry group.

The Missouri Medical Cannabis Trade Association announced that $ 2.4 million medical marijuana sales for the week ending March 19 followed four consecutive weeks of sales of nearly $ 2 million.

“These encouraging sales figures come as no surprise – but all the more impressive in a pandemic-hit economy,” said Andrew Mullins, executive director of MoCann Trade, in a statement Friday.

The trade group said more than 90,000 patients and caregivers have received state-approved medical cannabis cards and thousands of other applications have been filed.

Missouri voters approved medical marijuana in 2018. The pharmacies opened in October. Residents with cancer, epilepsy, glaucoma, and 20 other qualifying conditions are eligible.
